Eco tip for the fourth week of September
What's your favourite pud? What about fruit crumbles?
Did you know that if you make a large quantity of crumble topping, it freezes brilliantly and you can sprinkle just as much or as little as you need onto some fruit (that needed using up) and pop straight into a hot oven.
To make a big bag of crumble for freezing use:
- 200g butter
- 500g plain flour
- 150-200g sugar (more or less to your taste)
Rub the butter into the flour (or blitz them briefly in a food processor), add the sugar and then place in a strong bag or other suitable container and freeze. It will remain free-flowing after freezing so can be easily scooped or poured onto fruit and baked in a hot oven (170 C/Gas 4) until the top is golden brown and the fruit is bubbling.
